| Curved Edges |
|
For this tutorial, we are mainly going to use
the Rectangular Marquee Tool and I'll be using these images (1,
2,
3)
from The Demons Jumble which I used in the layout header for my
fanlisting "When Imaginary Becomes Reality" about the Charmed
episode 'Imaginary Fiends' (S7 E20), which is now closed.
Having already chosen the size and the design for the header... ...all I had to do now was add the images to the header. As the images each have site tags on them, I made sure that the final result would not have them in, so not to ruin the image on a whole.
I went to Layer>>>New>>>Layer on the
header, and using the move tool (image) dragged the first image
onto it and repeated this process for the remaining 2 images
making sure that the images were directly under one another. I
then began on the first image, making sure I selected the
appropriate layer in the layers window (If you don't have this
up, on your tool bar go to Window>>>Layers), I used the
Rectangular Marquee Tool (image) to mark out the area of the
image I wanted to crop.
After this, I went to: Select>>>Modify>>Smooth, and a box should come up. For the 3 main images, I typed in 4 and as you should the rectangle now has curved edges. If you want different variations on the 'curviness' of the edges, please either increase or decrease the number I've used. After this, I went to: Layer>>>Add Layer Mask>>>Reveal Selection, and I have my desired outcome. To ensure that all my images were the same size, I DID NOT deselect the shape I had and instead clicked on the layer with the next image I wanted to crop with curved edges and repeated the process above with the second and third image. It now looks like this: To finish the header off, I duplicated it: Image>>>Duplicate (which bring bring up a separate copy of the entire piece). Then, I hid the images I did not need which left the 3 main images of little Wyatt, little Wyatt and demon and Leo. I then decided to make the images smaller: Image>>>Image Size, and then using the Move Tool (image) once again, I moved these smaller version of the 3 images back onto the header and moved them into their desired positions. Adding a gradient map and some text, the layout header came out like this:
So, I hope that helps you!!
